Osaka and Nagoya: What are your hopes for the year ahead?
The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) deaf community has trouble finding interpreters who know about LGBT issues. I hope to interpret at LGBT events and help spread interest in Japanese sign language.

Nagoya staples at popular national chain Yamachan
If you are visiting friends in Nagoya and they are treating you to dinner, it would be a safe bet to assume they are taking you to one of the many branches of Yamachan that are scattered around the city. Although there are now 72 stores nationwide, a staggering 38 of those are in Aichi Prefecture, the home of this fun and lively izakaya.

And for good reason: xiao long bao (or XLB, or soup dumplings, or shoronpo as they're called in Japanese) are enchanting: semi-translucent satchels of dough encasing balls of minced pork suspended in, curiously, soup. In that magnificent way that the Chinese language has of mythologizing food they are literally "little dragon buns." Where to find the best ones is a constant subject of debate.

Veteran midfielder Fujimoto to transfer to Marinos
Jungo Fujimoto, a midfielder with national team experience, will move from Nagoya Grampus to Yokohama F. Marinos, it was learned Thursday.The 29-year-old native of Kanagawa Prefecture, moved from J.League club Shimizu S-Pulse to Grampus in 2011. Fujimoto scored three goals in 28 games for the Nagoya-based club this season.
