Poems translated into English by Empress published
A collection of poems by Michio Mado has been translated into English by Empress Michiko and was published last month in two volumes. Mado is popular in Japan as the writer of nursery rhymes such as "Zosan" ("Elephant").

Imperial Couple to visit Iwate in July
Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will visit Iwate Prefecture from July 4 to 5 to encourage people affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, the Imperial Household Agency said Thursday.

Obituary: Michiko Otsuka
Renowned actress and Haiyuza Theater Company leader Michiko Otsuka died of heart disease at her Tokyo home on Feb. 26, the theatrical troupe said Monday. She was 82.
