A construction company linked to a late former deputy mayor of Takahama, Fukui Prefecture, at the center of a money scandal involving Kansai Electric Power Co. received orders worth at least ¥3 billion directly or indirectly from the Kepco group over four years, it was learned Wednesday.

Fukui weighs new wave of reactors to protect status as Japan's 'nuclear capital'
With 13 commercial nuclear reactors — more than any other prefecture — Fukui has long been Japan's nuclear power capital. Prior to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and triple core meltdown at the Fukushima No. 1 plant, Fukui's plants provided up to half of Kansai's electricity.

Kansai Electric denies it plans to ship nuclear waste from Fukui plants to Aomori site
Kansai Electric Power Co. has denied reports earlier this week that it was planning to ship nuclear waste from its Fukui Prefecture plants to the town of Mutsu, Aomori Prefecture, after the idea was opposed by Mutsu Mayor Soichiro Miyashita.

Kepco restarts second Takahama reactor as Greenpeace warns of French MOX fuel shipment
Kansai Electric Power Co. restarted its Takahama No. 3 reactor Tuesday afternoon, bringing to five the number of nuclear reactors nationwide that have come back online since the March 11, 2011, triple meltdown at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant.
