Japan can endure yen's gains, says Kuroda's former deputy
While Japan has breathing space before the yen's gains become a serious problem for the economy, policymakers are unlikely to stand by should it climb too fast or if key inflation measures slump, according to Takatoshi Ito, a former colleague of central bank chief Haruhiko Kuroda.

One thing I learned on coming to Japan as an earnest foreign student of Buddhism was that the young monks — those shaven-headed fellows in picturesque robes diligently sweeping the temple grounds — are less ascetic than they look. Off duty, they knock back beers, warble at karaoke bars and in general comport themselves like normal Japanese guys.

The filmmaker behind this formidable documentary is 38-year-old Tomomi Ishiyama, a Fulbright scholar who studied at New York City University and later worked as an apprentice to film director Isao Okishima. "Inside Architecture" is her second feature, and her first documentary.
