NEW YORK -- Golden State Warriors President Robert Rowell, whoever this faceless, dubiously qualified phantom may be, was quoted last week contending his team has "under-achieved."

The locals identified this comment as Eric Musselman bashing.

Clearly, the second-year coach has been in serious job jeopardy from the moment he failed to form a deferential alliance during his debut with assistant GM Chris Mullin and Mike Dunleavy Jr.

Rowell's ill-timed opinion leaves the population with plenty of reason to believe owner Chris Cohan already has picked out parting gifts for his eighth coach in nine seasons.

What took Cohan so long?

Well, one for thing, finishing second in the balloting for coaching honors kept Musselman's principal detractors from devouring him during his rookie season.

Focusing on real and imagined weaknesses has made that less uncomplicated this year.

Especially when bald-faced facts aren't factored into the equation of the 32-40 Warriors, who, incidentally, have captured seven straight during the seventh-inning stretch of the season, when they could have easily played dead.

Under-achieved?

In view of the Warriors' demolishment last summer, which continued unabated for much of this season, how can anyone with half a blown-up basketball brain draw that conclusion?

Under-achieved?

Correct me if I'm right, but wasn't Antawn Jamison, the team's top scorer/maximum wage earner, donated to Dallas by Cohan and Mullin, his laying in the weeds co-conspirator?

Didn't second-leading scorer/free agent Gilbert Arenas sign with the Wizards for $66 million guaranteed for six years?

Didn't nuclear sub Earl Boykins get $13.7 million guaranteed for five to join the Nuggets?

Hasn't Troy Murphy only recently recovered from a debilitating foot problem?

Didn't Adonal Foyle miss more than half the season due to knee surgery?

Hasn't Nick Van Exel been injured and upset on and off for half the schedule?

Didn't Speedy Claxton get hurt just as he was coming into his own as the team's maestro?

Don't the Warriors start 37-year-old Cliff Robinson, averaging four rebounds, at power forward?

And you were wondering why Erick Dampier collects so many boards!

Under-achieved?

The Warriors were 38-44 last season; prior to that the last time they saw as many as 30 wins was 1997.

Under-achieved?

Accusing Rowell of impeaching his credibility is pointless.

Who ever alleged he had an ounce of it to begin with?

This is the same guy who thinks the Carolina Panthers under-achieved because they couldn't close the deal and win the Super Bowl.
