North Korea has notified Tokyo that it plans to launch its second military spy satellite by June 4, the Japan Coast Guard said early Monday, as top leaders from Japan, South Korea and China gathered for a rare trilateral summit in Seoul.
The coast guard said the launch window would run through June 4, with the North Korean notice designating three areas near the Korean Peninsula and the Philippine island of Luzon as maritime danger zones where debris from the rocket carrying the satellite could fall.
The zones were the same as those designated ahead of the North’s last successful satellite launch in November. Shortly after that success, Pyongyang announced plans to put three additional reconnaissance satellites into orbit.
