KDDI Corp. has decided to sell its personal handy-phone system subsidiary, DDI Pocket Inc., to an alliance involving the Carlyle Group and Kyocera Corp., sources said Thursday.
The three companies are expected to reach a final agreement on the deal next month, but its value is likely to surpass 200 billion yen, the sources said.
DDI Pocket, Japan's largest PHS services provider, is owned 80 percent by KDDI, a major telecom carrier, and 13 percent by Kyocera, a leading electronics maker that produces cell phone and PHS handsets.
