Self-styled "hardcore chamber music group" Koch-Schutz-Studer come to Japan to take up a weeklong "residency" at Super-Deluxe in Roppongi, Tokyo on Oct. 1-7.
The Swiss improvised electro-jazz trio are known for their radical juxtaposition of sounds, sequencing noises from unrecognizable sources across musical genres, merging digital beats with reeds, cello, drums and percussion.
Their Roppongi concerts see them team up with radical Japanese musicians, including the progressive tango band Salle Gaveau and improvisational violinists Yuji Katsui and Keisuke Ohta.
Overlapping with their concerts, an award-winning documentary about Koch-Schutz-Studer will be shown in Nakano. Swiss film director Peter Liechti recorded their staggering 30-day performances in Zurich in a cinematic piece that won a prize at the 2006 Locarno International Film Festival.
"Seven Colors of Hardcore Chamber Music" takes place at Super-Deluxe, Roppongi, Tokyo on Oct. 1-7 (7 p.m.). Tickets are ¥3,500 including a drink.
