Sanae Takaichi, the newly elected president of the Liberal Democratic Party, has gotten off to a positive start right out of the gates, garnering strong public approval ratings in two media polls.

In a Kyodo News survey released Monday afternoon, 68.4% of respondents said they have "high hopes" for Takaichi, while 25.5% said they do not. In a JNN poll conducted over the weekend, 66% said backed Takaichi.

Of all respondents in the JNN poll, 66% said they have “high hopes” for Takaichi, with the figure rising to 75% for LDP supporters. Public support for the LDP also increased to 27.9%, up 4.6 percentage points from the previous month.
