Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish on Monday threw from elevation for the first time since having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last March.

Darvish threw 17 pitches from a half-raised mound without experiencing any pain or discomfort. He will throw from the half-mound every other day until the Rangers feel comfortable with sending him to an actual mound and increasing the pressure on his elbow.

Darvish is on course to rejoin the Texas rotation as early as May.

"I wasn't sure how much my elbow was going to be affected by it, but it was fun being out there," Darvish said. "No discomfort, felt good.

"I've been going on the mound for 20 years so there wasn't anything new about it."
