Japan suffered a straight-sets defeat against Italy in the Men's Volleyball World Cup on Sunday, slipping to its second loss in the tournament, which also doubles as a qualifier for next summer's Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Ivan Zaytsev led the charge for world No. 4 Italy with a team-high 16 points en route to a 25-21, 25-20, 25-15 victory over the host at Hiroshima Green Arena. Masahiro Yanagida had 15 points for 20th-ranked Japan. Italy improved to 4-1.

Earlier, the United States downed Egypt 3-0, while last year's world champion Poland defeated Venezuela 3-1 to both maintain 5-0 records. Argentina beat Tunisia 3-0 and Canada edged Australia 3-2, to pick up their third and second wins, respectively.
