Japan's women lost their final World Cup match against China on Sunday, finishing in fifth place.

Having missed out on the two Olympic berths on offer with a defeat to the United States on Saturday, Japan ended the tournament with a 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22 defeat at Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya for a 7-4 win-loss record.

China finished top with the win and booked its place in Rio de Janeiro on a 10-1 record. Serbia also sealed its spot after defeating Argentina for second place with its 10th win, behind only on points.

The United States ended third, ahead of Russia on points with both teams rounding the tournament off with wins for a 9-2 record.
