Former WBC flyweight champion Akira Yaegashi will fight top-ranked Mexican Pedro Guevara for the vacant light flyweight title on Dec. 30, it was announced on Monday.

The 31-year-old Yaegashi, who was dethroned as fly champion by Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua in September, is ranked third for the bout to be held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

The light fly title became vacant when champion Naoya Inoue gave it up to move up two weight classes.

"I am happy that I will be standing on a big stage like this for my comeback fight," said Yaegashi, also a winner of minimum weight title.

"Never in my dreams did I think I would get a crack at three weight classes when I started out as a boxer."

Yaegashi has a record of 20 wins (10 KOs) against four losses. The 25-year-old Guevara has 23 wins (15 KOs) with one loss and a draw.
