Yoshinao Masatoki and Toshihiko Takahashi won the men's doubles bowling gold medal at the Asian Games on Thursday.

Masatoki and Takahashi scored a six-game total of 2,533 points while the silver medal went to compatriots Tomoyuki Sasaki and Daisuke Yoshida, who scored 2,502.

Hardy Rachmadian and Billy Muhammad Islam won the bronze medal with 2,489.

It was Japan's first gold medal in this discipline since the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima.

"I have played for 10 years with Masatoki so I am delighted that our work has culminated in the gold," said the 31-year-old Takahashi. "In some ways it was difficult (competing against Japanese for the gold) but we worked hard for it."

The 30-year-old Masatoki said, "I was so happy I was in tears. I have been playing with Takahashi since we were juniors and finally we have got the gold medal."
