Anzu Yamamoto defeated compatriot Nae Udaka to win the women's 57-kg title on Saturday, the first day of the Paris Grand Slam.
Emi Yamagishi won the women's 48-kg crown for Japan. On the men's side, Shinji Kido was third in the 60-kg class, while Masaaki Fukuoka was also third in the 66-kg category.
In the women's 52-kg class, Misato Nakamura lost in the second round in her first international competition since the 2012 London Olympics. Fellow London Olympian Riki Nakaya was knocked out in the third round of the men's 73 kg.
