Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish, who was suffering from a nerve problem from his lower back to his right leg has undergone an MRI and received an injection to reduce inflammation, the American League club said Thursday.
Darvish underwent the examination on Wednesday.
"We're hopeful it will resolve the issue," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "We expect him to be 100 percent (for spring training)."
Darvish, who led both leagues with 277 strikeouts, posted a 13-9 record with a 2.83 ERA. Daniels said the problem started in August. In his last nine starts after Aug. 18, Darvish went 1-4 and threw fewer fastballs than he had up to that point.
"He wasn't as powerful as he wanted to be after being out there for an extended period of time," Daniels said.
The team had considered giving him the injection during the season, but Darvish wanted to put it off until the end of the season. He is slated to return to the United States in November, when he will be reevaluated.
