World individual medley champion Daiya Seto came in third in the 200-meter IM but failed to qualify for the final in the 100 butterfly at the World Cup on Sunday.

Seto, only the third Japanese to have won a world title, recorded a time of 1 minute, 52.62 seconds for the bronze but bowed out in the 100 fly heats after a 52.88.

The 19-year-old was disappointed he fell 0.14 short of his short-course best in the IM.

"I would have liked a new personal record," Seto said. "I now know that I don't have enough explosiveness (in the fly). I've got to keep aiming high."
