Arimori set to receive IOC award

Two-time Olympic women’s marathon medalist Yuko Arimori has been chosen by the International Olympic Committee as one of the five recipients of the 2010 Women and Sport Awards, sources familiar with the matter said Tuesday.

Arimori, the founder and president of the Heart of Gold, a non-profit organization, was recognized for her social work in developing countries, including the holding of the annual half marathon in Cambodia to support children wounded by landmines.

The Women and Sport Awards go to five continental winners, while the World Women and Sport Award is given to one each year.

Arimori won silver at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and bronze four years later in Atlanta.
