Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka joined the Gigantes de Carolina this week to play in Puerto Rico's winter league.
The 36-year-old right-hander, who spent this past season coming back from shoulder surgery in August 2015, is scheduled to play in the winter league for a month, with his first game set for Saturday against Caguas.
In 2017, Matsuzaka will be on the third and final year of his contract with the Hawks.
