Ayumu Goromaru, Japan's 2015 Rugby World Cup hero, has reached a basic agreement to join French first-division club Toulon next season, Kyodo News learned Tuesday.

The 30-year-old fullback is in the final round of negotiations with the three-time European champions and a deal could be announced before the end of this month.

Goromaru would play for Toulon instead of his parent club Yamaha Jubilo in Japan's Top League since the seasons run concurrently.

Goromaru is currently playing Super Rugby with the Queensland Reds, who he will leave at the end of the campaign.

Australian media in February reported Goromaru had struck a one-year deal with Toulon but he denied any knowledge of such an offer.
