As they gear up for their first season, which tips off next month, the Kanazawa Samuraiz have been busy assembling their roster.
Days after signing versatile frontcourt star Marshall Brown, Kanazawa completed its acquisition of power forward Lenny Daniel, the team announced on Friday.
The 201-cm Daniel attended Cal State Northridge before beginning his pro career in 2011. He starred for national hoop powerhouse Mt. Zion (North Carolina) Christian Academy, which went 54-13 during his junior and senior seasons, and then went to Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College before enrolling at Cal State Northridge.
Daniel, 28, earned All-Big West Conference accolades as a college senior, when he shot 50 percent or better in 19 of his final 21 games.
Daniels' pro career has included stops in Israel, South Korea, Greece and, most recently, Bulgaria.
During the 2014-15 season, Daniel was the leading scorer for Cherno More Port Varna of the Bulgarian League, contributing 16.0 points in 30 games. He shot 63.8 percent from the floor and grabbed 6.8 rebounds per game.
In late August, the team signed veteran power forward/center Cyrus Tate, who has been a key performer for the Oita HeatDevils, Hamamatsu Higashimikawa Phoenix and Rizing Fukuoka in recent seasons.
The 203-cm Tate, who turns 30 on Sept. 23, brings a rugged inside presence bolstered by his experience playing at the University of Iowa against physical Big 10 foes to the Samuraiz, who are led by first-year coach Yukinori Suzuki.
