The Chiba Lotte Marines announced Thursday that they have signed South Korean right-hander Baek Cha-seung from the Musashino Heat Bears of the independent BC League on a one-year deal.
The 35-year-old Baek played in Nippon Professional Baseball with Orix in 2012, but was limited to nine games with the Buffaloes’ Western League farm club. Baek has a 3-4 record with a 2.86 earned run average in 13 games for Musashino.
“I’m grateful to Lotte for bringing me back to Japanese pro baseball,” said Baek, who has 16 big-league wins in a career spent with the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres.
“I want to do my best to contribute to wins.”
Baek’s deal is reportedly worth ¥5 million yen (roughly $40,250).
