Japan's track team qualified for the men's 4x100-meter relay at next year's Rio de Janeiro Olympics after finishing third in the race at the world relays on Saturday.

Japan's Kazuma Oseto, Kenji Fujimitsu, Yoshihide Kiryu and Kotaro Taniguchi came home in 38.20 seconds, behind the first-place United States and second-place Jamaica. The U.S. won in a meet-record 37.38.

The top eight finalists booked a place in Rio.

"It's been a while since I was that excited," Kiryu said. "I just naturally switched on and ran my heart out. It's great to have won a bronze medal with the four of us — best moment ever.

"Hope we can reach the podium again at the Rio Olympics. I want to become stronger."
