Akira Yaegashi, who lost his bid for the WBC light flyweight crown at the end of last year, said Friday he wants another crack at a world title.

"I have been vague about whether or not I would quit but I'm going to aim to be a world champion once more," Yaegashi, a former world titlist in two different weight categories, told a news conference.

Yaegashi, who boxes out of the Ohashi Gym, is scheduled to make his return in the super flyweight division in early May.

"It was an error of judgment on my part making him (Yaegashi) challenge for the light flyweight belt," gym chief Hideyuki Ohashi said. "He will get more power from bulking up."

Yaegashi, fighting as a third-ranked challenger, lost to top-ranked contender Pedro Guevara of Mexico in a seventh-round knockout in the WBC light flyweight title match on Dec. 30.
