Scotland flyhalf Finn Russell will miss the team's Six Nations match against Italy on Feb. 28 after being banned for two weeks for a dangerous tackle.
Russell pulled out of competing for a high ball with Wales flyhalf Dan Biggar during a Six Nations match on Sunday, and ended up taking out his opponent while he was in the air. Russell was sent to the sin-bin.
A disciplinary committee reviewed the incident Wednesday and said in a statement that the act of foul play merited a red card.
The committee judged the tackle to be reckless rather than deliberate and gave Russell a three-week ban, reduced by a week because of mitigating circumstances.
Russell is banned until midnight on March 1.
