Eri Tosaka gave Japan its first medal of the wrestling world championships in Budapest on Wednesday when she won gold in the women's 48-kg final.

The 20-year-old Tosaka defeated Mayelis Caripa Castillo of Venezuela on a technical fall just 1 minute, 44 seconds into the final to grab her first gold and erase the disappointment of taking silver on her debut in last year's worlds.

"I was so disappointed about last year and I have been wrestling with the aim of becoming a champion. I am glad that has led to this result," said Tosaka.

"I want to wrestle at the (2016 Rio de Janeiro) Olympics and year by year I will be making efforts."
