Kei Nishikori, the 11th ranked men's singles player in the world, is the men's 12th seed, organizers announced Wednesday.
It is Nishikori's highest seeding yet for a grand slam event. Unlike the other three Grand Slam tournaments, Wimbledon does not rely exclusively on each player's world ranking when assigning seeds. Organizers weigh a player's results on grass over the past two seasons when deciding seeds.
Serbia's Novak Djokovic is the top seed in the men's draw, with Briton Andy Murray second. Defending men's champion Roger Federer of Switzerland is the third seed, while French Open runnerup David Ferrer fourth. Rafael Nadal, who sent Nishikori packing from the French Open en route to win the title, is seeded fifth.
