MIAMI (Kyodo) Ryo Ishikawa improved his chances of finishing in the top 10 for the first time on the U.S. PGA Tour, shooting a 2-under 70 Saturday in the third round of the Cadillac Championship.

Ishikawa moved from a share of 19th to a tie for 16th at 5-under 211 amid concerns over the effects of a devastating earthquake in his country after making three birdies against a lone bogey at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral.

The 2009 Japanese tour money leader reached the green in two shots on the par-5 first hole and two-putted for birdie.

Ishikawa bogeyed the second but got back on track with birdies on the fourth and seventh before matching pars the rest of the way.

"I'm pleased that I kept myself tough mentally on the third day," Ishikawa said. "Since I'm not in Japan, I haven't been able to grasp the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake. I believe the only thing I can do is play well and encourage the people back home."
