SAITAMA (Kyodo) Former NTT Group executive Shigeru Suzuki was named the new president of scandal-ridden J. League club Omiya Ardija on Wednesday.

The 57-year-old Suzuki replaces Seigo Watanabe, who resigned after the team admitted to having forged their attendance records over the last three years.

Watanabe will remain with Ardija as an adviser, though the length of his term was not known.

Suzuki was an ex-director at TelWel East Japan, part of the NTT Group. He was previously head of business operations at Omiya from August 1999 to June 2004.
