PITTSBURGH (Kyodo) Akinori Iwamura has cleared waivers and is now eligible to sign with any team — in the majors or in Japan.
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced the move Friday. The 31-year-old Iwamura, who had been designated for assignment to the minors since June, hit .182 with two homers and nine RBIs with the Pirates.
