Team captain Shota Ishimine went 5-for-5 and drove in three runs to help Japan advance to the semifinals of the 5th World University Baseball Championship with a 13-0 victory over Taiwan on Wednesday at Yokohama Stadium.

Ishimine was one of three Japanese players to drive in three runs in a game that was called after the seventh inning due to the mercy rule.

In other games, Cuba advanced with a 14-0 win over Sri Lanka while Canada routed China 17-3. Neither team advanced.

Japan will take on the United States in the semifinals while Cuba will face South Korea.
