Freestyle moguls medal hopeful Aiko Uemura arrived in Vancouver on Thursday along with other members of the Japanese Olympic team ahead of the 2010 Winter Games.

Uemura and members of the Japanese speed skating team who touched down from Calgary joined the athletes' village, which officially opened its gates the same day.

"Every time I've appeared in an Olympics until now I have been a disconcerted wreck. Today, I feel solid," said Uemura, who is chasing her first medal in her fourth Olympic appearance.

Uemura, the 2007-08 overall World Cup moguls champion, said she is focused on the task at hand, despite not having won any World Cup titles this season.

"The only thing left is not to think too much and enjoy myself," she said.

The Japanese Olympic team was greeted by sunny skies in Vancouver, which has been hit with unseasonable warm weather and heavy rainfall in recent weeks.

"I knew once I got here in Vancouver I would get the feeling of the Olympics," said speed skater Joji Kato, whose slated to compete in the men's 500-meter competition.

Athletes from the main Japanese Olympic delegation are scheduled to arrive Sunday.
