Meiji University pulled off the shock of the Emperor's Cup third round on Saturday as the Tokyo college breezed to a 3-0 win at first-division Montedio Yamagata.

Hirotaka Mita fired Meiji in front on 27 minutes and the amateurs doubled their advantage through Hiroyuki Yamamoto before Toyofumi Sakano completed a stunning victory five minutes from time at ND Soft Stadium.

Meiji's reward in the next round is a meeting with Albirex Niigata, who saw off second-division Yokohama FC 3-1 courtesy of goals from Naoto Matsuo, Kisho Yano and Marcio Richardes.

Meiji was the only minnow to advance from Saturday's matches as Matsumoto Yamaga, who put Urawa Reds to the sword in the previous round, went down 4-1 at J2 side FC Gifu, Kagoshima's National Institute of Fitness and Sport lost 3-1 in extra time at Jubilo Iwata and Fukuoka University was hammered 6-1 at defending champions Gamba Osaka.
