Seibu Lions right-hander Zhu Dawei has been selected to China’s final roster for the second World Baseball Classic getting under way next month, the Pacific League club said Tuesday.
Zhu, 20, who joined Seibu in the 2006 draft for high school players but has not made any appearances on the top team, is scheduled to join the Chinese team for training on Feb. 27.
“I was surprised when I heard the news. I will do my best for my mother country,” Zhu said.
China takes on defending champion Japan in the tournament opener at Tokyo Dome on March 5.
