Reigning world champion Mao Asada came from behind to beat archrival and two-time defending champion Kim Yu Na of South Korea in the prestigious Grand Prix final on Saturday.

Asada, second after the short program, made a riveting free skate performance to win her first final in three years with a total of 188.55 points and in the process accomplished a feat never done before by a woman in international competition — landing two triple axels.

Kim, who was unbeaten this winter in the Grand Prix series, came second with 186.35 while Italy's Carolina Kostner's mark of 168.01 was good enough for third in the strong field of six skaters selected based on their performances in this winter's Grand Prix series.
