Senichi Hoshino, who skippered the Japanese national team at the Beijing Olympic baseball tournament, says that even if he is offered to become manager of the national team for next year's World Baseball Classic he will decline.

Hoshino revealed his intention Monday on his official Web site.

Japan finished in a disappointing fourth place at last month's Beijing Olympics.

Hoshino, 61, said on his Web site that he is aware of public criticism about his leadership as skipper of the Japanese national team in Beijing and does not want to face that same pressure in the future.

A professional baseball committee led by Japanese commissioner Ryozo Kato confirmed last week that it aims to choose a manager of the national team for the second WBC tournament next March as soon as possible.
