Injured Mongolian ozeki Hakuho will remain hospitalized until Thursday, making it highly likely that he will miss the upcoming Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament, his stable master said Monday.

Sumo elder Kumagatani said doctors had found it difficult to remove the stitches by Monday, when Hakuho was originally scheduled to leave the hospital, following surgery on a toe injury he sustained last week.

"It seems he has a fractured toe and I don't want to see him wrestle with it," Kumagatani said. "Hakuho has recovered to a point where he is able to walk, but I'll consider things carefully before making a decision on whether to let him wrestle this month. He is a wrestler with a bright future and we're looking ahead to 10 years down the road."
