Japan manager Sadaharu Oh said Monday his team is ready to start anew after finishing in second place behind South Korea in the first round of the inaugural World Baseball Classic.

"The time has come and it will be a high-level competition," Oh said. "Our players can only get better after the Asian round. The weather is great out here so we're ready to play at our best."

Oh and his players arrived in Phoenix earlier Monday, looking slightly beleaguered from the long flight after finishing runnerup with a 2-1 record behind undefeated South Korea (3-0) in Tokyo.
