South Korea and North Korea have agreed in principle to form a unified team for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, officials of the Korean Olympic Committee said Thursday.

The agreement was made during an Olympic Council of Asia executive board meeting in Guangzhou, China. The Koreas have marched under one flag six times at the opening and closing ceremonies of international sporting events since the 2000 Sydney Olympics but have never fielded a unified team at an Olympics or international multi-sport competition. Both sides will hold working-level talks on the inter-Korean team for the Asian Games from next month.
