Tottori Pref. – Takuya Taniguchi birdied the final two holes to hold off a final-round charge by Katsumasa Miyamoto on Sunday to win the Aiful Cup by two shots for his first career victory.
Overnight leader Taniguchi, playing in his second year on the tour, shot a 2-under-par 69 that featured six birdies and four bogeys on his way to a 14-under 270 total at Daisen Ark Country Club in Tottori Prefecture.
The 24-year-old Tohoku Fukushi University graduate earned 24 million yen from the 120 million yen purse. The biggest paycheck of his career moved him into eighth on the money list, all but assuring him an exemption for the next year’s tour events.
