Japan's Kaori Mori suffered a straight-sets defeat to Mia Audina Tjiptawan in the women's singles quarterfinals at the Yonex Open on Friday as Japan's title hopes ended at the tournament.

Mori, who all but booked her ticket to the Athens Olympics based on her world ranking after reaching the last eight Thursday, was no match for the fourth-seeded Dutchwoman, who eased into the semifinals with an 11-7, 11-6 win at Yoyogi national gymnasium annex.

Mori's defeat came after Shizuka Yamamoto and Seiko Yamada, who finished third at last year's World Championships, and Mikako Naganawa and Naoko Ogawa were knocked out of the women's doubles competition.
