U.S. LPGA regular Akiko Fukushima has turned down an invitation to play in a tournament on the Japan men's tour, golf sources said Wednesday.

Organizers offered Fukushima a chance to play in the Georgia Tokai Classic in early October but the 29-year-old turned down the opportunity to become the first woman to play in a professional tournament on the Japanese tour.

"I received an offer to play, but politely declined.

Men's competitions should be for men and women's competitions for women," said Fukushima.
