A firearm was discharged following a traffic altercation in the city of Chofu, in western Tokyo, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, resulting in police being called to the scene.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the confrontation began at an intersection after two vehicles nearly collided, causing one to block the other. The two male drivers exited their vehicles and began to argue over the near collision.

During the dispute, one of the drivers exclaimed, “I’ll kill you,” before firing a single shot from what appeared to be a pistol. He then fled north.

No one was injured in the incident, but police are searching for the gunman and investigating it as attempted murder.

The suspect is described as a man who appears to be in his 40s, about 170 centimeters tall with a thin build, wearing a black baseball cap, matching jersey top and bottom, and spectacles.

The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the Wakaba residential area, approximately 500 meters south of the Keio Line's Sengawa Station.
