A car driven by a 75-year-old man struck three elementary school students Thursday in Shizuoka Prefecture, leaving one of them unconscious, police and other sources said.

The man was arrested at the scene for alleged negligent driving resulting in injury. The man, who was unhurt, admitted hitting the children. The accident site is a straight section of a road with no guardrail, police said.

The second-grade students — two boys and one girl — were all taken to the hospital after the accident in a residential area in the city of Hamamatsu, they said.

One of the boys was unconscious while the other boy suffered broken bones. The girl suffered minor injuries, they said.
