South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin is planning to visit Japan on Monday to meet with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, sources familiar with the countries' bilateral ties said Thursday, as the two nations explore ways to thaw their icy relationship.

During his expected stay, Park will also meet with his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi, in what will be the first formal bilateral meeting between them since Park took up the post following South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's inauguration on May 10, according to the sources.

Park's meeting with Hayashi would be the two nations' first foreign ministerial talks in Japan since November 2019.
