A 23-year-old university student was arrested Thursday on suspicion of killing two women with arrows fired from a crossbow at his home in Takarazuka, Hyogo Prefecture, police said.

Suspect Hideaki Nozu, who was arrested at the scene, is believed to have deliberately shot his mother and grandmother, according to investigative sources.

He is also suspected of firing arrows at his younger brother and a female relative, who both suffered noncritical injuries, the sources said, adding that Nozu has admitted to the charges.

Emergency services said a neighbor of the family made a call around 10:15 a.m. to report that a woman, believed to be the injured relative, had an arrow wound in her head and was calling for help.
