A meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and U.S. President Barack Obama in central Japan is likely to be held Wednesday night rather than Thursday as originally planned, sources said Tuesday.

The meeting is expected to be moved up as Tokyo and Washington may need to respond to rising anti-U.S. sentiment in Okinawa following the detention of an American base worker for the killing of a local woman, the sources said.

Obama is expected to arrive in Japan from Vietnam on Wednesday evening to attend the two-day Group of Seven summit starting Thursday in Mie Prefecture.
