Police arrested an 18-year-old man in Yokohama Wednesday on suspicion of abducting an elementary school girl who stayed at his house for three days.

The suspect, whose name has been withheld because he is a minor, has owned up to abducting the 12-year-old girl, police said. She was unhurt when police went to the suspect's home Tuesday.

He allegedly told police he "wanted to offer a place for the girl to stay because she was on bad terms with her parents."

According to investigators, the two came to know each other on an online dating site and had made an appointment to meet each other.

He approached the girl, who was waiting in a park near his home, around 4:30 p.m. Sunday and asked her to visit his house. The two were together until Wednesday afternoon, the police said.

The girl's mother alerted the police Monday after the girl didn't come home Sunday night. The man surfaced after police obtained her cellphone records.
