TOYAMA – A care worker was arrested Friday for allegedly using a knife to inflict several cuts on a 100-year-old woman at a nursing home in the city of Toyama, police said.
Satomi Kamata, 22, of Toyama, is suspected of attacking the resident of Sanjuen Home on Aug. 23 and 24, leaving her with several shallow cuts in her arms and back.
According to the police, Kamata admitted to injuring the woman. She allegedly said she felt “frustrated.”
The incident came to light when another staff member found the wounds on the victim’s body on Aug. 23. After more cuts were found the next day, the nursing home had the woman see a doctor and informed the police.
The police said the victim is nearly permanently bedridden and her condition required constant care by a team of helpers. Kamata, whom the facility hired in April 2011, was a member of the team assigned to her.
Kamata later quit Sanjuen and currently works at a different nursing home.
