Shanghai police said a suspect was arrested Monday in connection with the death of a Japanese female resident of the city.
Shanghai police notified the Japanese Consulate in the city, and consular officials were contacting the woman's relatives in Japan to confirm her identity.
The woman, a company employee in her 30s, was found dead Sunday afternoon in a high-rise apartment, a police official said without elaborating on the cause of death.
The police said cash and other personal items believed to have belonged to the victim were found in the suspect's home.
The woman lived in a gated complex of high-rise apartments protected by private guards.
